Design a laboratory in a nuclear environment

Design a laboratory in a nuclear environment

Define, design, build, and commission nuclear laboratories while integrated standard or high-tech analytical equipment.

    • Clearly define with the flow requirements, frequency, and type of analysis with the operator
    • Identify equipment that must be adapted or modified to meet:
    • Analysis needs for radioactive solutions/effluents/sludge/solids
    • Requirement for guaranteed equipment lifepan under irradiation conditions
    • Need to protect operators and facilities from irradiating and contaminating materials
    • Proper process operation, quality objectives, regulatory authority obligations and regulation
    • Analyze organizational and human factors to enable operators to work under appropriate safety, security, and ergonomic conditions
    • Benefit from support to define your needs (type of enclosures, analytical equipment, sample management, etc.)
    • Rely on our teams from laboratory design to industrial commissioning
    • Conduct studies on :
    • Nuclearization of off-the-shelf equipment and their validation in our facilities,
    • Custom confinement enclosure design (operability, maintenance, waste management, ventilation, etc.),
    • Verification of existing laboratory dimensions like to your new specifications
    • Train future facility operators using platforms and mock-ups

    • 50+ years of experience in designing and operating laboratories across the fuel cycle: La Hague, Melox, CEA, and Tricastin sites in France, as well as ore concentration sites, Rokkasho and Fukushima in Japan, Sellafield in the UK, and MFFF in the US
    • Laboratories in operation (product quality, RCD and DEM, operational monitoring, environment, medical, asbestos)
    • Online process monitoring (FXL, spectrophotometer, etc.)
    • Multiple nuclearized analysis techniques for liquid or solid samples (ICP-MS, K-EDGE, FXL, gamma spectrometry, SSA, furnaces, etc.)
    • ALARA approach and ergonomics consideration for adapting analysis systems in enclosures
    • Mix of specific engineering and operator expertise
    • Centers and infrastructure (HEF, HRB, HRP, CIME) enabling virtual/augmented reality implementation,
    • Orano's active participation in CETAMA and BNEN networks
