Sources for dose calibrator quality control

LEA supplies sealed check sources for the verification of dose calibrators used in nuclear medicine.
    • Perform the regulatory constancy, repeatability and accuracy checks required for dose calibrators
    • Have the two check sources required to carry out these controls
    • Meet the minimum activity requirements for the selected radionuclides
    • Use sources supplied with a calibration certificate
    • Handle the sources under conditions suited to verification operations
    • Rely on sealed sources packaged in plastic vials for easier handling
    • Benefit from a homogeneous distribution of the radionuclide within a thermosetting resin
    • Use radionuclides with emission lines close to those of ¹⁸F, ⁹⁹ᵐTc, ¹²³I, ¹³¹I, ¹¹¹In and ²⁰¹Tl, which are commonly used in nuclear medicine
    • Select the appropriate reference from LEA’s range of ¹³³Ba, ⁵⁷Co and ¹³⁷Cs sources

Homogeneous radionuclide distribution within the resin
    • The standard type F geometry has a useful volume of 10 cm³, a diameter of 24 mm and a height of 58 mm
    • The ¹³³Ba sources are available with an activity of 10 MBq under reference BA133 EGA F 50, or 20 MBq under reference BA133 EGA F 55
    • The ⁵⁷Co sources are available with an activity of 100 MBq under reference CO57 EGA F 80, 200 MBq under reference CO57 EGA F 90, or 370 MBq under reference CO57 EGA F 100
    • The ¹³⁷Cs sources are available with an activity of 10 MBq under reference CS137 EGA F 50, or 20 MBq under reference CS137 EGA F 55
    • At the time of testing, the minimum required activities are 40 MBq for ⁵⁷Co and 5 MBq for ¹³³Ba and ¹³⁷Cs
    • Upon request, calibration can be performed under Cofrac accreditation, with a measurement uncertainty of 3% or less for a coverage factor of k = 2
